Maize and Blue Kick Off Invitational with a Win

Ann Arbor, Michigan The University of Michigan women's lacrosse team competed in the first game of the Michigan Invitational on Thursday night (March 8), defeating the #17 Trojans of Southern California by a score of 12-10 in Ann Arbor, Michigan at Oosterbaan Fieldhouse.

The Wolverines jumped out to a 4-0 lead behind spread scoring, but allowed USC to creep back in it, as the Trojans notched four goals just before the end of the half with the Wolverines leading 7-5 going into the break.  U-M jumped out quickly in the second half and rebuilt a sizable lead, but once again, Southern California battled back, and with three late goals, drew within 12-10 with two minutes left.  The Maize and Blue held on down the stretch however, and earned their seventh win of the season.

Sophomore Alexis Pavle led all Wolverines with three goals and one assist while senior captain Noelle Frazier added three goals of her own.  Rachel Lary led the team with four draw controls and six groundballs, while freshman goaltender stopped six Trojan shots.

Michigan will return to action Friday night (March 9) at 7:00pm when they take on #12 Lindenwood in the second game of the day.
