Alec is currently in his third year studying Materials Science Engineering at the University. In addition, he is pursuing a minor in Multidisciplinary Design. His interest in sustainability, new technologies, and traveling have been developed while involved with BLUElab Woven Wind. As co-project leader for the group, Alec organizes team members to complete tasks and continue progress. In addition to BLUElab, his hobbies include sports, music, and exercising.

 

Charlie is a junior in Mechanical Engineering with minors in Electrical and International Engineering. This is his second year as a member of Woven Wind and he is currently serving as a co-Project Leader of the team. Charlie enjoys BLUElab because of it’s perfect blend of social justice, sustainability, and technical engineering themes. He looks forward to progress in the year to come, especially within the Structure team of which he is a part. Charlie enjoys cooking and reading in his free time.

Omar is a senior at the University of Michigan studying Civil and Environmental Engineering, and pursuing a minor in Multidisciplinary Design. Omar has been involved with BLUElab since his sophomore year as a Project Leader on Woven Wind, and this year he is the Internal Vice President on the BLUElab executive board. Being part of this organization has allowed him to apply his technical and leadership skills on campus with other project teams, and abroad when he traveled to Guatemala. In his spare time, Omar also enjoys traveling and playing soccer.

 

Nils is a senior in Electrical Engineering at the University of Michigan. Within electrical engineering, he has concentrated on renewable energy specifically, and is most interested in energy and environmental policy. Nils serves as financial chair and on the electrical team of BLUElab Woven Wind and has twice traveled to Guatemala. Outside of Woven Wind, Nils enjoys soccer, running, books, and dogs.

Allison Wong

Sita is a senior in chemical engineering with a minor in international studies. She is passionate about increasing the installation of renewable energy in developing countries. Through her work in BLUElab Woven Wind, she has traveled to Guatemala twice to work on the installation of low-cost wind turbines. During the 2012 spring semester, she spent four months in India learning Hindi and researching solar energy in rural and urban settings. Other than BLUElab, Sita is involved in Groove, a high energy percussion performance group.  Sita loves sports, playing violin, spending time with her family, and laughing at good jokes.

 

Allison is from Puerto Rico and is a junior in Industrial and Operations Engineering. She is also pursuing a minor in Multidisciplinary Design. Allison’s passion for sustainability projects in developing countries allowed her to join BLUElab Woven Wind in her sophomore year. Currently she is the Cultural Leader of Woven Wind and the Travel Coordinator on the BLUElab executive board. Allison is responsible for contacting spanish speakers contacts in Guatemala and being the translator of the team. She enjoys drawing, eating, volunteering and traveling.

Anastasia Ostrowski

Michelle is a senior at the University of Michigan studying Chemical Engineering with a minor in the Multidisciplinary Design Program. She has been involved with BLUElab since her freshman year, and is currently the Blades subgroup leader. Michelle is also the External Vice President on the BLUElab executive board. Being part of this organization has allowed her to apply her to develop a passion for sustainability and use her technical and leadership skills on campus and abroad when she traveled to Guatemala in May 2012. In her spare time, Michelle enjoys running, playing the piano, and watching Friends.

 

Anastasia is a freshman at the University of Michigan anticipating studying Biomedical Engineering and pursuing an International Minor. This is Anastasia’s first year involved in BLUElab and Woven Wind project team. She is motivated by BLUElab’s dedication to sustainability and education about sustainable energy. Anastasia also enjoys cooking, exploring Ann Arbor, and experiencing new things.

Gina is a sophomore in Civil Engineering at the University of Michigan. She is also pursuing the International Minor and is a member of the Engineering Global Leadership honors society. Gina has been lucky enough to have been on the Woven Wind team since its inception. During her sophomore year, she was one of the co-internal relations chairs. She really enjoys the opportunity to apply the skills she has learned in engineering to construct something to help others. She has traveled to Guatemala with Woven Wind where it was amazing to see how excited about the project the women of Ixtahuacan are. On campus, she is also involved with the Michigan Concrete Canoe Team and with St. Mary's Student Parish.

 

Jae is a sophomore at the Ross Business School. When he started college, he knew he was definitely a math and science person and he wanted to do something community service related. So he looked for clubs and organizations that fit those interests and found BLUElab. The goals of Woven Wind--bringing sustainable energy to a village with high energy costs and empowering women--resonated with him and he joined the team. He looks forward to innovating and collaborating with both the team and the village in Guatemala.

Nick is a junior in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Energy Systems and a minor in International Engineering. This is Nick’s first year with BLUElab and he will be contributing to the Blades subgroup. He is looking forward to applying his passion for design engineering and sustainable systems towards a worthy cause that has the potential to benefit other people’s lives. In his free time Nick enjoys playing the guitar and and hiking.

 

R.J. is in his first year of BLUElab Woven Wind, and he is very eager to apply his skills in the transmission team. He enjoys service driven projects and is also hoping to expand his knowledge and passion for sustainability. In his free time R.J. plays soccer, runs, and juggles.

Genevieve is a freshman at the University of Michigan planning on studying Mechanical Engineering. This is her first year in BLUElab Woven Wind; she is serving as the external chair for the club. Genevieve plans to study abroad during her junior year, and has taken four years of Spanish in high school, so she was really drawn to the international element of BLUElab. She hopes to do the Peace Corps after college and is really interested in humanitarian work. In her very limited free time, Genevieve enjoys backpacking, playing tennis ,running, and reading.

 

Cynthia is a sophomore at the University of Michigan studying Electrical Engineering, and pursuing a minor in Multidisciplinary Design. Cynthia joined BLUElab’s Woven Wind team this year due to her interest in sustainable energy and the hands-on applications of the project. She is currently in the electrical sub-group. Outside of BLUElab Cynthia is an active member of the Society of Women Engineers and helped run the 2012 SWE/TBP Engineering Career Fair this year.

Tommy is a sophomore concentrating in Biomedical Engineering, and it is his second year on the Woven Wind team. He joined BlueLab in order to gain real-world experience in solving problems of sustainability, and traveled to Guatemala with the team last spring. He is interested in the design aspect of the project, specifically helping to maximize the efficiency and energy output of the turbine through improvements in the structure. He is excited to further establish a close relationship with the women of Guatemala, and to help them develop a better standard of living. In his free time, he enjoys golfing, backpacking, and fishing.

 

Maggie is a Junior studying Biomedical Engineering with a Multidisciplinary Design Minor . She joined BLUElab as a freshman because she was interested in using engineering skills to help third world countries. This is her third year on Woven Wind and has traveled to Guatemala once.This year Maggie is one of the internal chairs and is a leader of the electrical team. She takes minutes at meetings and focuses on the electrical storage and circuit part of the turbine. Outside of Woven Wind Maggie is involved in Dance Marathon and is the PASS in Mosher Jordan Residential Hall.

Jake is a 2011 graduate from the Aerospace Engineering department at the University of Michigan and is currently working as a stress engineer in Ann Arbor. He has been a member of Woven Wind since it’s conception, previously serving as design team leader and now acting as a co-leader for the electrical team. Jake is passionate about entrepreneurship and ensuring the success of this project. He also enjoys playing sports, traveling and learning about new cultures.

 

Nick is a junior at the University of Michigan majoring in Mechanical Engineering. This is his first year joining BLUElab and his interests in creative design lead him to involvement in Woven Wind. He is currently working with the blade design team to help optimize the power generated from the wind by creating an efficient blade geometry. In his free time, Nick likes running, playing tennis, and playing acoustic guitar.

Mengmeng is a sophomore majoring in Electrical Engineering and minoring in International Studies. Her interest in using technology to solve global issues, such as sustainability and social justice, led her to join BLUElab’s Woven Wind. Mengmeng looks forward to working with electrical sub-team on optimizing the power output so that the wind turbine could be helpful to the people in Guatemala. In her free time, Mengmeng enjoys playing flute, tennis, and piano, being with friends and family, and trying different ethnic foods.

 

Anne is a freshman at the University of Michigan studying engineering. BLUElab’s focus on educating the community about seeking sustainable solutions to today’s problems is what led her to become involved. Anne is excited to be a part of an organization that is passionate about using technology to improve the quality of life of others. On campus, she is also a member of the Society of Women Engineers, Phi Sigma Rho, and serves as a mentor for the Michigan Engineering Zone in Detroit.

Anna is a senior in Chemical Engineering at the University of Michigan. Anna’s interest in the environment and sustainable energy led her to join Woven Wind her sophomore year and for the last two years she has served as one of the internal relations chairs. Being a part of such a great student group, Anna looks forward to seeing the progress as the group co-designs a wind turbine and educates about sustainable energy. Outside of Woven Wind, Anna also enjoys the outdoors and playing intramural soccer.

 

Pamela is currently in her first year of the Mechanical Engineering program at U of M, focusing on environmental sustainability. She is from San Juan, Puerto Rico and graduated in 2012 from a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering at MIT. She is very interested in the development of appropriate technology that addresses environmental issues and is particularly interested in renewable energy technologies. She has been previously involved in groups focusing on design for the developing world, and is now part of the Blades subgroup for BLUElab Woven Wind. In her spare time she enjoys skateboarding and salsa dancing.

Brandon is a junior studying mechanical engineering with a concentration in energy. He joined BLUELab for the desire to study the design process of certain energy sources, and their applications in the real world. This is his first semester with BLUELab, and he is currently working in blade design. Aside from BLUELab, Brandon is also a SLC Facilitator for Introductory Mechanical Physics and an active member of KGrams, a student-run organization to encourage interaction with elementary school students throughout the state.

 

Bryce is a sophomore in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan. This is Bryce’s first year on Woven wind. He was attracted to Woven wind from his interest in sustainability, and sustainable engineering. Out of the classroom Bryce likes to play sports and be outside.
