About the University of Michigan Research Systems Unix Group
The Research Systems Unix Group (RSUG) is a workgroup within the Product Development & Deployment
(PD&D) unit of the Information
Technology Division (ITD) of the University of Michigan. Whew.
Most of our name no longer fits us very well: "Research Systems"
came from a department name within ITD that has been reorganized out of
existence, several reorganizations ago. The "Unix" part refers to the
operating system we like best, but we actually do a lot of work on
Macintosh and DOS/Windows computers. "Group" still applies pretty
well, and any new name would soon become obsolete.
Our roster:
- Allan Bjorklund
allan@umich.edu
Our defense against Microsoft, Allan is our only hope as he is our only Windows programmer.
- Bill Brehm
wwb@umich.edu
, our newest member, another way to spell sardonic.
- Ed Colone
epcjr@umich.edu
Ed due to being the most vocal about his description here, is not described due to the fact that this writer is trying very hard to find something even remotely close to witty to say about him. (sigh) Well alright, he is a temp, and is currently working very hard both to graduate in May and maybe even get a "real" position with us. Wonder how he'll like ITD in a "real" FT position? (speaking from an embittered mind)
- Evan P Cordes
epcordes@umich.edu
Evan is our resident musical talent, if you get a chance to check out his band Stylenol, you should - it'll move funk into your soul. He studies a lot, I think he'd like to graduate soon; he is a temp.
- Ben Fleis
lbf@umich.edu
- Chris Messina
cmessina@umich.edu
- Tyler Lewis
thlewis@umich.edu
- Jalpa Patel
jalpa@umich.edu
Jalpa is really nice, she is working on a super cool project that I don't have the security clearance to tell you about.
- Katarina Lukaszewicz
catarina@umich.edu
Aspires to be a musician, but doesn't quite fit the bill, as she doesn't even have an amp for her amp. Wants to be a superhero. Actually as of April 7, she has a amp. To be succinct, Katarina is still a poser.
- Scott Cameron
scam@umich.edu
Scott Cameron - hm, he was pretty unwilling to do any real work for our onca
ll, but we waved the money in front of his face and he broke down so as to be ab
le to acquire better and newer parts for his home computer. Scott is a bright programmer... hey did I just say something nice?!
- Steve McFarland
mcsteve@umich.edu
Steve McFarland (Spanky), a kind person albeit sometimes the evil sarcastic side shows through under his professional and tactful exterior. Spanky has been rumored to be the most reliable of the bunch.
- Wesley Craig
wes@umich.edu
Wes is our ruling tyrant whom we all kowtow to, and from whom we get all sorts of curious technical leadership.
Alumni
We all work on the north end of the 4th floor of the historic Argus
Camera factory, in the Old West Side of Ann Arbor, Michigan. The
accommodations are posh, in a geeky sense. Our office space includes
many windows, a sofa, a fridge, a dart board, and several action
figures. Some of the figures even make cool
noises.
