Please join the Environmental Policy Organization for our first happy hour of the year this Friday. This will be a joint event with the Environmental Law Organization so it will be a great opportunity to meet students from SNRE, Public Policy and the Law School.

Dr. Susan F. Wood is Research Professor at the George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services where her work focuses on the use of scientific knowledge in public policy.  She served as Assistant Commissioner for Women’s Health and Director of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) through August 2005.  She resigned on principle over the continued delay of approval of emergency contraception over-the-counter by FDA.
 
Dr. Brian Athey is an Associate Professor of Biomedical Informatics in the University of Michigan Medical School Department of Psychiatry; an Associate Professor of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology in the UM Bioinformatics Program; Director of the Michigan Center for Biological Information (MCBI), the Bioinformatics Computing and Digital Library Hub of the Michigan Life Science Corridor (MLSC) Infrastructure Initiative, administratively housed in the University of Michigan Office of the Vice President for Research. Brian was recently named Associate Director of the University of Michigan Center for Computational Medicine and Biology, where his is responsible for the computing and data infrastructure build out for the Center and the Medical School.
 
Dr. Wood and Dr. Athey are both members of the Scientists and Engineers for America (SEA).
 
SEA will host a reception to follow at Arbor Brewing Company - 114 E. Washington St. from 6:30 – 7:30 pm.
