For six days and seven nights, journalist Robin Monroe and pilot Quinn Harris find that they are conveniently stranded on a deserted island in the aftermath of a crash-landing. Desperate to escape, they make the search for a means to repair their plane.

Unfortunately, here comes a few certain complications.

Primarily, the two are not often getting along. In one of their excursions about the island, Quinn, fed up with Robin's constant nitpicking, pushes her off a 50 foot cliff. By some miracle, she falls into the water and is uninjured.

However, Quinn, not being quite renowned for his grace, loses his balance and falls as well, though he is not as lucky and makes a rather painful fall. He manages to recieve quite a bit of damage to his brain.

As much as Robin would like to bash his head in, the problem is that he's the one who knows how to repair the plane.

At this very precise moment, Robin notices a lone glass bottle washing ashore from the corner of her eye. Inside is a message, which reads...

"Merrilactone A is a neurotrophic compound. It may possibly be produced from the product of this following reaction scheme:

He, W.; Huang, J.; Sun, X.; Frontier, A. J. J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2008, 130, 300-308.

On the back of this paper are the mechanism and experimental procedures. Luckily, Robin herself is a closet organic chemist. Motivated by this truly miraculous find, she embarks upon a quest to synthesize this merrilactone A, cure Quinn, have him fix the plane, and make their escape.
