PROJECT PIPER
PIPERCYCLOBUTANAMIDE A
Pipercyclobutanamide A is a naturally-occurring substance that was first isolated in 2001 from the black pepper plant Piper nigrum. It is a secondary metabolite in the human body, and was synthesized in 2012 by Will R. Gutekunst, Ryan Gianatassio, and Phil S. Baran.
The reaction analyzed in detail in Project Piper is the final step of the synthesis, which transforms Molecule 20 to Molecule 5 (pipercyclobutanamide A).
