Introduction to Data Mining
Using SAS Enterprise Miner®
November 10, 2009
Joe Kazemi, Heidi Reichert, Edward Rothman, and Kathy Welch
Data Mining is all about gaining knowledge by extracting information from data. It is the process of uncovering hidden patterns from large amounts of data and producing good predictive models that provide us with knowledge and enable us to make decisions that increase revenues, reduce costs, control risk, identify fraud, or achieve many other objectives.
This workshop is intended for any researcher interested in learning about theory and applications of Data Mining or the SAS Enterprise Miner software. Topics covered will include Linear Regression, Logistic Regression, Regression Trees, and Classification Trees. Concepts emphasized will include definition and setting of the objective function as well as partitioning a data set into training and testing sets.
Through the use of SAS Enterprise Miner® statistical software package (Version 4.3 from SAS 9.1.3), which combines powerful statistical analysis with graphical ease of use, this workshop will alternate between short introductory lectures and longer sessions of hands-on demonstrations and examples with real data sets. Each participant will be provided a laptop running the software.
