Doctoral Workshop

Dozens of doctoral students are writing dissertations on Detroit and cities like it. These students span the social sciences and the professions: urban planning, sociology, architecture, history, political science, education, communications, anthropology, public health, and more. This workshop provides an opportunity for these students to get feedback from their peers on a piece of writing in progress: a research proposal, a dissertation chapter, or a draft of a journal article. We also invite faculty to attend the writing workshop, at the discretion of the student presenting. The workshop meets once per month—usually over lunch. We hold half of our workshops in Detroit and half in Ann Arbor. Interested students should email pcooperm@umich.edu to join the mailing list. We welcome doctoral students from any university to attend and share their work.

We thank the Rackham Graduate School for their generous support.
