Running Polymath™ .pol Files for Living Example Problems

There are two ways to go about opening a .pol file. Although both methods should work, some computers have difficulty recogonizing what a .pol file is. This is why we recommend using the second method.
  1. Method 1: Right click on the .pol file, click "Save link as..." and save the file to the Desktop or a desired folder. From there you can either click on the file (if your computer recognizes it as a Polymath file) or open the file up from within Polymath by selecting the "Open" icon on the top left.
  2. Method 2:
    1. Left click on the .pol file. You will see the code appear in front of your eyes. Copy and paste the code in Polymath (everything but the first line).

    2. Open up the Polymath program.

    3. Select your desired program type. In this case we will select "differential equations".

    4. Paste the code into Polymath

    5. Select graph and table. Click the green triangle to Run. You will be able to see the numerical result both graphically and numerically.

  3. Clicking the green triangle in the nagivation bar in Polymath will run the file. Be sure to remember to select graph if you wish to see the graph.

  4. For additional help consult the Polymath help file by go to the "Help" pull-down menu and select "Contents"
