President
Jamila O. Fair, Michigan 2007

    Biography:
    Jamila O. FairAs a senior at the University of Michigan, Jamila has accomplished a lot. She is a Pre-law student with a concentration in Political Science. Originally from Farmington Hills, MI, she came to campus ready to make a difference. Prior to her role as President of the UM NAACP, she served as a committee chair, 2nd Vice President, and Vice President. She knows the organization and does not hesitate to welcome new members into the cause. Her quote of inspiration is that “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter” by Martin Luther King Jr. Through her activism, you can see her belief in this daily.

    I am ready to get things done. There are too many important matters going happening on our campus and in our country for me to just sit back and watch them all go by. This year, the NAACP is going to get out there and fight for the change that we want. With my relentless pursuit for results and my optimistic approach to challenges and adversity, I am excited to be a part of something so big. I can feel it already that this year, the NAACP is going to be really great!.

Vice President
Chelsea Freeman, Michigan 2007

    Biography:
    Chelsea FreemanOriginally from Detroit, MI, Chelsea is a senior here at the University of Michigan. She is majoring in Biopsychology and Cognitive Sciences/Pre-law. In her years on campus, she has participated in many organizations and has been active in improving campus life. When she commits herself to something, she will get it done no matter. Her dedication and persistency through obstacles and setbacks have her more than prepared to serve as 1st Vice President of the UM NAACP. Upon graduation from UM, she plans on continuing her education at a law school situated in California, where she will attain her J.D. and MBA.

2nd Vice President

Bryon Maxey, Michigan 2009
    Biography:
    Bryon MaxeyBryon believes with Huey P. Newton, that “There will be no prison which can hold our movement down.” Bryon is a sophomore at the UM and he is already on his way. As a member of many student organizations, such as BSU, NAACP, SSAA, Telluride House, and the SIBS program, Bryon knows that his voice matters and will not hesitate to speak it. The History and CAAS major, originally from Rose Township, MI, serves as the 2nd Vice president of the UM NAACP, and he has ideas that will inflict change in our minds and our community.

    Bryon’s Lyrics about the NAACP:
    First and foremost, I hope to assist in defeating the MCRI--which won’t be passing in
    November. I will participate in strengthening campus unification to get our campus community to a point where it looks as together as we understand it to be. You should expect to see the NAACP working with our State Chapter and other organizations around. Together, we will get things done. And, last but not LEAST, the NAACP is going to be FUN, we are the hottest thing to do... Why? Cuz erebody wanna be in the NAACP. Yup.



3rd Vice President
Shaquitta Stanley, Michigan 2009
    Biography:
    Shaquitta StanleyShaquitta Stanley serves as the 3rd Vice President of the UM NAACP, working closely with the wonderful committee chairs of the organization. She is a sophomore from the City of Detroit, Michigan and she is a Spanish major. When it comes to social justice, her life includes making things better for everyone else. She serves as the co-chair of BSU, a mentor for POSSE and SIBS, and a member of BPMA. Her favorite quote is "Until the great mass of the people shall be filled with the sense of responsibility for each other's welfare, social justice can never be attained" by Helen Keller.

    Shaquitta’s Lyrics about the NAACP:
    I will bring the enthusiasm and dedication that is vital for the NAACP to carry out its purpose in representing the community of people of color on campus. There is a constant struggle to obtain social equality on campus and I am ready to participate in the battle.

    I intend to assist in making the NAACP become more visible on campus while increasing our membership with a diversified group of dedicated students. We will see change this year, and it starts with us.



Treasurer
Chenelle Weathers, Michigan 2008
    Biography:
    Chenelle WeathersChenelle quotes the Bible for support and guidance, “...For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required; and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more" (Luke 12:48). The scripture she quotes is her encouragement to be the best that she can be at her role in the UM NAACP. Our organization has been given much from the Greats’ of the past, and it falls into our hands to carry it on. Chenelle is a Business-Accounting major, and she serves as the treasurer of the UM NAACP, providing us with the funds to carry on legacies. She is a junior from Jackson, Michigan.

    Chenelle’s Lyrics about the NAACP:
    I will bring in more funding. With more funding, we can and will have bigger and better budgeted events with the capacity to accomplish more and to reach more people. I want to see NAACP reach out and collaborate with other organizations even more than we did last year and to have an even greater impact on the campus community and the state.

     

Parliamentarian
Evette Hollins, Michigan 2009

    Biography:
    Evette HollinsEvette Hollins entered campus and immediately began to make changes. She is serious about her tasks and she will not stop until she is done. Ms. Hollins is currently a sophomore with the focus and concentration of Business–finance, Pre-law. Her hometown is Detroit, MI, where she has gone back to help the community multiple times. Prior to her current role as Parliamentarian of the UM NAACP, she held the position of Community Service Committee Chair in the year 2005-2006.
