Cathiana Pierre
  Bois Coupe, Haiti
Female
11/15/1992

Cathiana lives with her uncle, Jean Marc, and her grandma, Felicia, a market seller.  She does not live with her parents since they work outside of the community.  The household speaks Creole.

Cathiana is a friendly girl who loves playing with dolls, skipping, and singing.  She wants to grow up to become a seamstress.  Although she has some time to play, all kids in the community have chores, such as fetching firewood and water.  She currently attends high school and is doing well, particularly enjoying the subjects of math, history, and grammar.  The walk to school may take about 45 minutes, but she enjoys meeting up and spending the day with her friends.

Major issues include poor hygiene due to lack of private latrines and thus high rate of disease contraction; lack of access to clean drinking water leads to diarrhea and cholera, with the public stand pipe being 2 km away; and the nearest health facility being about 2 hours away.
