CONVERSION OF CIS TO TRANS STEREOCHEMISTRY IN THE SYNTHESIS OF PIPERCYCLOBUTANAMIDE

THE WORLD NEEDS VICTORS.

Callie Chappell is a pre-law student at the University of Michigan studying Cell and Molecular Biology and Philosophy. In her free time, she hikes in the woods, writes slam poetry, bakes vegan cupcakes, paints on maps, and reads T.S. Eliot. Callie is currently on the UofM policy debate team and is the team’s token Asian. Callie loves molecular orbital theory and the intersection between chemistry and quantum physics almost as much as she loves reading Martin Heidegger.

CATWOMAN

AIMAN FARUQI.

James Lawniczak is a University of Michigan undergraduate student studying Biochemistry. In his free time, he plays Clair de Lune on the piano (after Mozart, Bach, and Rachmaninoff), makes melodies on the violin, writes mini-textbooks on thin film interference and Bayesian probability, brainstorms over a game of sudoku, and discusses new scientific discoveries and insightful mathematical ideas with his family (in Polish) and his friends. James performs research in cancer biochemistry at the Michigan Chemistry Department, and volunteers for Appreciate and Reciprocate, a philanthropic organization that supports the LSA Emergency Scholarship Fund. James is fascinated by the beauty of math in describing chemistry and physics, and by the power of science in describing our world. James hopes to earn a PhD in biochemistry, and to continue exploring the mysterious landscape of the chemistry of life.

Q

Aiman Faruqi is an undergraduate student at the University of Michigan studying biochemistry. In his free time, he writes for his blog The Science Drop, watches television shows and movies, and debates politics and ideology with his friends and family. Aiman is also a research assistant in Michigan’s Chemistry Department, employing computational methods to explore biologically relevant chemical reactions. After his undergraduate education, he hopes to enroll in a Medical Scientist Training Program.

LUCIUS FOX

Ryan Gentil is a preferred admit to the pharmacy school and is studying Microbiology at the University of Michigan. In his free time (that exists?), he enjoys long walks on the beach, warm bubble baths, eating delicious West Quad meals, and frequenting Netflix. Ryan is a member of U of M’s philanthropic a cappella group, Angels on Call, and is an active member of PAWS, “Pets are Wonderful Support.” He works as a pharmacy technician, and one day hopes to become an oncology pharmacist.
