Come relax and have a drink! (Must be 21 and up to purchase alcohol.) Our speciality of the day is molecule 61. Curious about how it came to be? Check out the process below! It's an island secret, filled with custom ingredients from the islands of Hawaii.

A solution of LiN(SiMe3)2 (1.0 M in toluene, 0.353 mL, 0.353 mmol) was added to a solution of the substrate (29.0 mg, 70.7 μmol) in THF (6 mL) at -78°C. After stirring at that temperature for 15 min, iodomethane (26 μL, 0.424 mmol) was added. The reaction mixture was stirred at -78°C for 1 h, then at -40°C for 4 h. The reaction was quenched with a saturated aqueous NH4Cl solution at -40°C and extracted with ethyl acetate. The combined organic phase was washed with brine, dried over Na2SO4, concentrated, and the residue was purified by column chromatography on silica gel (15% ethyl acetate in hexanes) to deliver compound 61 as an inseparable mixture of diastereomers.
