Boulder, CO- The Brigham Young University Cougars relied on tenacity, winning ground balls, and great goal-tending to beat the Michigan Wolverines. It was a hard fought battle between the Top 5 teams. The story of the game was scoring runs by each team.
The game started very promising for the Wolverines scoring in the first 20 seconds. From there BYU went on a 6-2 run to end the first half; making the score 6-3 at the half. Although BYU managed to score 6 goals, the Michigan defense was playing very well and did not make it easy; the Cougars just managed to take good shots, and made them count. BYU was also on offense for the majority of the first half and set the pace of the game.
The Cougars continued their scoring ways into the start of the second half taking a 9-3 lead. Katie Mezwa then started off a 4-1 Michigan run, which brought Michigan within three, and a score of 7-10. However, as time was running out on the Wolverines they pulled their goalie; BYU took advantage and scored 2 more goals, finishing up 12-7.
The Wolverines will look to rebound from this loss as they have 3 more games ahead of them this weekend.
