1. Moritz, B. J.; Mack, D. J.; Tong, L.; Thomson, R. J. Angew. Chem., Int. Ed. 2014, 53, 2988.

This paper focuses on the total synthesis of sculponeatin N, which is a biologically active compound similar to maoecrystal-v in structure, synthesis methods, and origin (both compounds originate from plants of the Isodon genus). The researchers use many of the same types of reactions and reagents used in the synthesis of Maoecrystal-V, so this paper likely provided useful information for multiple portions of the paper.

2. Desjardins S., Maertens G., Canesi S. Org. Lett. 2014, 16, 4928-4931.

This paper cites the paper by Moritz, et al as a good example of a synthesis of an unusual ent-kaurane with “interesting and very challenging architecture”. As such, the Moritz paper would have likely been useful when selecting reagents that react selectively, for example, and many similar types of reactions were probably used in both syntheses.

3. Du, K., Guo, P., Chen, Y., Cao, Z., Wang, Z., Tang, W. J. Angew Chem Int Edit. 2015, 54, 3033-3037.

Like the Desjardins, et al paper, this paper cites the Moritz, et al paper as a source of good methods that are applicable to their synthesis, which is an enantioselective, palladium-catalyzed synthesis of terpenes. Since the Moritz, et al paper focuses on the synthesis of a diterpene, one can see how the authors of this paper would find it useful.

This paper focuses on the total syntheses of (-)-maoecrystal Z, (-)-trichorabdal A, and (-)-longikaurin E. The authors cite the Moritz, et al paper primarily because it concerns a total synthesis of sculponeatin N, which is an ent-kaurane similar to the molecules synthesized in this paper. The syntheses of the molecules in the two papers consist of many similar steps that utilize many of the same reactants. .
