Sail With Us - Our 75th Year!

We provide a sailing facility to University of Michigan students, faculty, staff, alumni, the Michigan Sailing Team, and the community. Our members are individuals from the UM community and beyond in SE Michigan who love to sail and windsurf. Join us at our waterfront clubhouse in Dexter, and meet friendly new people while enjoying the sport of sailing during spring, summer and fall.

We offer a unique and affordable opportunity to learn and practice the art of sailing. We were originally founded in 1938 to provide sailing facilities for a small group of naval architecture students; our primary mission now is to develop our members' skills in all aspects of sailing. For the beginner, we provide lessons. For the more experienced, we offer advanced clinics, racing, teaching opportunities, boat repair, and the use of trapeze and spinnaker equipment.

Come to Baseline Lake and try us out! Your first two visits are free of charge or obligation. The only prerequisite to participating in club activities is that you know how to swim.

If you're new to sailing, we recommend that you begin by visiting the club on a Saturday morning anytime between 9 AM and Noon for an introductory sailboat ride. No reservations or advance notice needed. Once you join the club, your membership will include individual lessons on the water and on shore.

If you're familiar with sailing and want to know more about the club, stop by any weekend (or weekday afternoon after 6:30 PM, in summer) to check out our fleet and facilities. Don't forget to look at our calendar to see what special events may be going on this week.

When you come out to the club, please bring soft-soled shoes, a towel and change of clothes, lunch, and something to drink. Please, no alcohol and no pets. No food is provided at the club, but we do have water available. We have life jackets in all sizes but feel free to bring your own if you prefer.

If you'd like to become a member, come out to the club to join. We keep all the new member materials (including your copy of The Michigan Sailor, our club handbook) there. Talk to a club officer for more details.

If you're an undergraduate student at Michigan and interested in racing competitively, you might also want to check out the Michigan Sailing Team.
