INTRODUCTION
In this section we would like to step back and discuss several scenarios implementing the systems presented on the previous pages. These examples support our contention that captioning would present a powerful addition to all visual communication systems. They also illustrate how even minor innovations involving captions would be beneficial to users.

You are videoconferencing with family at a family reunion in another state and the audio quality is poor...
There are actually many circumstances in which an audio signal might be of poor quality. Captioning provides a second route for communication so that users can read text that may be difficult to understand as audio.

You are videoconferencing with your manager and want a record of the conversation...
Meeting participants often prefer to focus on the interaction rather than worrying about writing information down. InterCaption can create a transcript automatically. This file could then be sythesized to be used as minutes or could be distributed in its entirety.

You are thinking back to a brainstorming session and trying to remember which meeting it was in...
InterCaption transcripts allow users to search for relevant information via keyword.

You are making reservations at a Mexican hotel and the owner understands only a little English..
Automating translation would allow non-English speaking users to participate more easily in an interaction in English.
