InterCaption Project
  • You are videoconferencing with family at a family reunion in another state and the audio quality is poor...
  • You are videoconferencing with your manager and want a record of the conversation...
  • You are thinking back to a brainstorming session and trying to remember which meeting it was in...
  • You are making reservations at a Mexican hotel and the owner understands only a little English...

... InterCaption will help you meet all of these needs.

    Project Overview
We provide an introduction to the ideas behind InterCaption.

    Automated Translation - Interactive Diagram
We include translation software to illustrate that captions could be simultaneously produced in multiple languages.

Basic Visual Communications - Interactive Diagram
We document a closed circuit videoconferencing system as a starting point for one viable model of integrated captioning.

    User Scenarios
We provide selected examples of the many potential applications of this system.

    Automated Captioning - Interactive Diagram
We build onto the basic visual communications system to provide a simple system to produce automated captioning.

    Future Technologies
We outline selected examples of more complex systems that could exist today based upon our model. We then describe how evolving technologies would enrich the InterCaption system.

    Caption Capturing - Interactive Diagram
We add another component to demonstrate that captions can be captured and automatically combined to produce a transcript of the interaction.

    Credits & Resources
We would like to acknowledge those who have contributed to our efforts and to point readers to additional sources of information.
