The my.umich.edu Project team has a broad, inclusive policy for determining services and resources to be offered in the my.umich environment. To provide resources that will optimize access for everyone the environment is intended to serve, the Project team will collect usage and preference information from the University community. This information will be combined with available development resource considerations to determine service creation priorities.

Already, student interviews conducted during the spring are informing the developers and designers as they create the initial framework that will give students an attractive, functional Web space with features they need and want this fall. Ongoing student interactions will provide such information for continual development and improvements.

Campus-wide advisory groups are planned to identify categories of potential my.umich.edu users and to ensure that the development of the my.umich environment incorporates the services and features that are relevant to them. The input of these groups will help to define processes for selecting services for inclusion in my.umich, designing service delivery methods, developing communication strategies, and coordinating development plans for the overall environment.

By constructing a consolidated service environment and allowing people broad freedom to select the information they want to display within their personalized Web space, the my.umich Project team will provide varied audiences with convenient access to the U-M resources that matter to them.
