Provide a mechanism for the generation of this side product (22), and discuss how/why the procedure developed by the authors limited its formation.
The authors removed the side product (22) by adding Boc2O, triethylamine, and N,N-dimethylaminopyridine (DMAP) to the reaction mixture and stirring for 3 hours. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure and the remaining mixture was purified by PLTC to yield the desired compound (19).
