Workshops We are a halo-halo of Filipino and American culture, attempting to dissolve the distinction between them. Try to put this into words, then make it your life to tell that experience through many voices. Hear from Lara Stapleton, a Filipina author whose first book of short stories, "The Lowest Blue Flame Before Nothing," was published just last year. FILIPINO AMERICANS IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY: "Can We Make It?" Reno Ursal, of California based Classified Records, will talk about the presence of Filipino Americans in the music industry. He will discuss the impact of Filipino American music artists on the community as a whole and more importantly will focus on the opportunities for Filipino Americans in the music industry. FAITH & RELIGION - "Losing My Religion" Faith/Religion is one of the most influential forces in our lives. In this session, we hope to reflect on and enhance our awareness about our faith and those of others, about our relationship with "God"(whatever we conceive God to be), and its role in the Filipino-American experience. A panel of Filipino-American religious leaders will share their knowledge and perspectives with us and also will mediate open and productive dialogues/discussions involving the audience. Through this workshop, we hope to understand ourselves better in relation to our own faith and empower ourselves through it. |
