    Responsibilities Include: Incumbent serves as an Institutional Environmental Health Program Manager responsible for the overall administration of the IHS Institutional Environmental Health (IEH) Program. Plans, implements, and evaluates the program for the protection of patents, staff, and visitors at IHS facilities. Serves as a technical advisor to area and service unit staff on health and safety concerns in child care, educational, correctional facilities on Indian lands. Provides consultation, program coordination, technical guidance and leadership in IEH matters to IHS Area Institutional Environmental Health Officers, IHS programs/staff, tribal leaders and other Federal, state and local agencies. Directs, coordinates, and monitors the IHS Occupational Safety & Health program and the IHS radiation safety program. Serves as the IHS consultant on nosocomial infection control. Evaluates and arranges the agency-wide educational and training needs of Area and service unit IEH staff in environmental health and safety regulations, practices, and procedures appropriate to the healthcare environment. Develops policies and guidelines. Develops budget justification documents and responds to congressional inquiries concerning IEH activities.

    Qualifications Include:
    • GS-14: Candidate must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level.
    • A. Basic Requirements: Degree: major study in an academic field related to the health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position.
    • B. Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study or specific course requirements generally as stated in paragraph A in the individual occupational requirements. Where specific course requirements are not indicated in paragraph A, the number of semester hours required to constitute a major field of study is the amount specified by the college or university attended. If this number cannot be obtained, 24 semester hours will be considered as equivalent to a major field of study. The nature and quality of this required course work must have been such that it would serve as a prerequisite for more advanced study in the field or subject-matter area. Related course work generally refers to courses that may be accepted as part of the program major.

    Summary: The Southern Research Station will soon advertise a long-term detail for the Assistant Director of Operations, GS-14, located in Asheville, North Carolina. This detail is expected to be for one year but may be extended for a longer period. The Assistant Director is retiring in July 2008, and this is an interim step to allow time to determine the optimum configuration of SRS’s Executive Team.

    Responsibilities Include: This position is responsible for the planning, coordinating, and management of a broad and complex program of technical and administrative support services. The incumbent participates as a member of the executive decision making group (Executive Team) in planning developing, coordinating, and integrating all phases of administrative support for the SRS. The incumbent also works with a Board of Directors in providing Acquisition Management support to the SRS and a number of Region 8 units. This individual also supervises the two national Multicultural Workforce Strategic Initiatives hosted by the SRS.

    Responsibilities Include:
    • The incumbent, as Team Leader of an Interdisciplinary Team (IDT), is responsible for the development and completion of Wilderness Management Plans (WMP's) and associated NEPA documentation. The incumbent is responsible for the planning format and input for all sections of the WMP's. The position distributes work and makes day-to-day adjustments to accommodate changing priorities and provides instructions, procedures, work methods, and on-the-job training to employees. The incumbent also reviews work in progress and insures compliance with procedures, methods, and deadlines.
    • Public contact and documentation is the responsibility of the incumbent. This includes scheduling interagency and public meetings, recording comments, initiating responses and
    • Systematically ensures that the WMP's meet specific public input regulations.
    • The incumbent develops management action alternatives, using sound judgment and negotiating skills to determine an array of viable alternatives in compliance with CEQ and NEPA guidelines. Work with various resource specialists and user groups to develop management.
    • Strategies that are consistent with laws and regulations.
    • The incumbent is responsible for the completion and quality of the WMP's and associated NEPA documentation. This involves guidance of the IDT for in-depth analysis, scheduling proof reading and editing.


    Qualifications Include:

    • The person selected for this position is responsible for the directing and communicating activities in OTAQ, which is critical to EPA, OAR, and OTAQ missions. Serves as a Commercial Space Transportation Environmental Expert on commercial space launch and reentry vehicles. Provides expert environmental information to new and existing launch companies seeking environmental approval from the Associate Administrator for Commercial Space Transportation. Reviews environmental data submitted by a commercial space launch, reentry or site operator to determine whether the information is sufficient for a decision by the Associate Administrator for Commercial Space Transportation. The incumbent will develop national guidance and procedures for FAA processing of applications received from space launch, reentry and spaceport operators.
