Betsy's high school friends....Then, Now, and sort of in between:

Seeking more photos from high school!
Me and my High School Bowl team (I was the captain!) in 1987.  Mark and Matt (the two on the right) are now both doctors.  Steve (standing) now lives in Georgia and has succeeded in a number of different careers.  I don't know about Mike.  Peg and I went to the prom together because it was cheaper to buy two tickets than singles, and there were no suitable boys that asked us to the prom.  We had a blast going "stag"!
Me and Annie on her wedding day in 1993.  Annie has the dubious honor of having nicknamed me "Betz."  It has stuck with me for 20 years! Annie & Madison ("Jimmy") on their wedding day.  They've been sweethearts since...what class was that....Trigonometry in 1986!    Annie & Madison again
Margarette was one of the top female brains in our class (myself and Lyn N. being the other two vying for the top spot) who went on to become an Engineer.  She came to Ann Arbor in 1996 for a visit.  I will always remember this visit as the time I told her friend, whom I'd never met, that he looked too old to be Margarette's friend.  Open mouth, insert foot!   Steve N., my former High School Bowl teammate, came to Ann Arbor for the Penn State game in 1998.  I like Steve, even though he's a Republican!  ;-)  Steve took all his old VHS tapes and converted them to DVD and shared them with dozens of classmates in 2007.  What a guy! This is Mrs. Hite.  She was my English teacher in 9th grade.  I remember one thing about that class, which I still quote to this day:  when asked how long a paper needed to be, she often quoted her Tennessean father.  "Just like my daddy said about mini-skirts: long enough to cover what needs to be covered."  I saw her at a restaurant in Gwinn in 2005, and I timidly approached her, "Excuse me..."  Before I could even get the rest of the sentence out of my mouth, she said, "Why Betsy Sundholm, how the heck are you!?"  I simply cannot believe that she remembered me nearly two decades later, from all the hundreds of students she taught!  She is now happily retired after three decades as an English teacher.
2003

Dindy, Kris, Carrie, Lyn, & Chele

Six of my close friends from high school (photo taken by Peg L.).  They got together for dinner just after Christmas, 2003.  I was invited, but forgot about it like a fool.  I knew this would turn into an annual event.  Now we do it every year on December 26.

2004

Me, Chele, Dindy, and Peg

The following year, I had my proverbial shit together and was able to make it!  It was shortly after this get-together that the Up North Lodge burned to the ground!  They rebuilt, and we got together again in 2006, but I forgot to take a picture!

2007

Peg, Me, Carrie, Dindy, and Chele

2007 at The Waterfront in Marquette.  Dindy was in town anyway to pick up her & Tony's new ice shack, and Derek and I were itching to get back to "the city" after 3 days in Arnold, so we decided on a new venue this year.  Excellent suggestion, Carrie!

Mike and I had French class together.  I even wrote in my diary about seeing a French-language play at Forrest Roberts Theater with the rest of our French class, at which Mike was SOOOO involved in the story that he fell asleep on my shoulder (awww).   Mike is a great guy, and we were friends, but I wouldn't say especially close.  We graduated and went about our adulthood.  We might never have seen each other again, but a decade later, Derek came home from golf asking if I knew someone named Mike Kerr.  Turns out he was living in Ann Arbor and bumped into Derek at the golf course!  Here he is with his adorable daughter in 2007. Michele R., a good friend from 1984-1986 who moved away.  I am thrilled to say that we found each other again in April 2005!

10-year reunion, Gwinn, 1998

Adam, his wife Marcy (left), and my ol' confidant and trig partner, Annie Dave L. and Sara A., who married shortly thereafter and started making beautiful blond babies. The reunion golf crew:  Derek, Todd P., Aaron M.
My High School Bowl teammate, Mark L., and his wife Heather--both U of M alumni.  Mark and I were the only two GHS 88ers to attend U of M as undergrads (others followed for Med school and Masters degrees and whatnot). Bobby, Madison, and Mike

Many would say they were the funniest dudes in our class!  Except official Class Clown Tom H., of course.
