SORC friends

The SORC (sounds like "horse," not like "dork") is one of the two facilities that I manage at The U. Since I manage Billiards too, we have to designate which organization gets how much of my time. Billiards gets 25% and SORC gets 75%, in theory.

Besides me, there are no other full-time university employees helping to run The SORC. Yet as an organization we are responsible for a great many services offered to the university community. Here's just a partial list: campus banners, showcases, campus bus signs, campus outdoor advertising boards, tent rental, balloon design and delivery, computing services (we are a campus computing site), publicity workshops, copy machine, laser printing, color printing, student organization meeting space, banner production, fax service, and helium tank rental, just to name a few.

Needless to say, I must rely very heavily on the skills and abilities of my student staff.  Because this is one of the more demanding student jobs, I think it's imperative that we do a lot of staff bonding outside the office.  Several four-year SORC employees (we call them "Lifers," and there is even a plaque where their names go if they work here 3 or 4 of their school years) have become lifelong friends of mine.

Now:

A match made in SORC heaven!
Yes, we have our first official SORC marriage, as of June 2007.
Tara and Justin met each other during Tara's senior year (Justin joined us as a grad student) at U of M, and started dating toward the end of that year. Four years later, they tied the knot!

Brian is a wall-of-famer, having started at SORC as a wee freshman in Fall 2001.  This picture was taken on the day he turned in his keys, summer of 2005.

Norm discovered photography as a hobby in his senior year, and has since become a photojournalist!  I'm very proud of him!

Another of Norm's shots (that's him in the rear-view mirror).  To see more of his amazing work or to get in touch with him, visit:  www.normanng.com.   Norm came to visit his Michigan Union friends during his "sentimental journey" through the US, before returning to Singapore, in October 2005.  He took this photo of us on the Union steps on a glorious, sunny autumn day.  (Good thing he has long arms).  Best of luck to you, Norm!

Norm's life is far too interesting to fit on this page.

Then:

One of our favorite things to do as a staff for a getaway was eat at Don Carlos, before its untimely demise in 2004.
