| Three of my best and most long-lasting friends from the Billiards Room are Bill Paradise, Bill Shurtliff, and Steve Holzhauer. Back in the good ol' days when I first started working at the BR, we would have lunch together and do a crossword--sometimes two a day--with "Mr. Bill," who worked at the Library. Here are the two "elder statesmen" Bill and Bill in 1992. |
Me, Mr. Bill, Steve-O 2004? After suffering a heart attack and a series of strokes in 1996, Bill Paradise retired and moved to Illinois to live with his niece. Mr. Bill eventually retired too, but he, Steve, and I try to get together for lunch every once in a while. This photo was taken in the early 2000s. |

2008 Mr. Bill now lives with his daughter in Grass Lake. We drove out to see him in the Spring of 2008 and had a wonderful lunch and conversation. His wife passed away a few years ago, and he lives with Jody and helps take care of her "kids," aka, her pets. |
