Michigan Union friends

Three of my best and most long-lasting friends from the Billiards Room are Bill Paradise, Bill Shurtliff, and Steve Holzhauer.  Back in the good ol' days when I first started working at the BR, we would have lunch together and do a crossword--sometimes two a day--with "Mr. Bill," who worked at the Library.  Here are the two "elder statesmen" Bill and Bill in 1992. Me, Mr. Bill, Steve-O    2004?

After suffering a heart attack and a series of strokes in 1996, Bill Paradise retired and moved to Illinois to live with his niece.  Mr. Bill eventually retired too, but he, Steve, and I try to get together for lunch every once in a while.  This photo was taken in the early 2000s.

Mr. Bill now lives with his daughter in Grass Lake.  We drove out to see him in the Spring of 2008 and had a wonderful lunch and conversation.  His wife passed away a few years ago, and he lives with Jody and helps take care of her "kids," aka, her pets.

Me, Donna, and Maggy on the day we celebrated Maggy's 40th birthday at the office, 2005. Me, Phil, & Donna at Donna's surprise 40th birthday party thrown by her hubby, Mom, and sisters, November 2005 (just 6 weeks after Maggy's!) Robin and Phil at our bowling party for UUAP student staff on 4/9/06.
Katie was home from DC in the summer of 2006--for her brother's wedding, I believe. We met for breakfast at Mark's Coney Island before she had to leave for the airport. She moved back to Michigan about one year later, to our delight.
