Albuquerque Visit w/ the Dietzlers
Grandma's 75th Bday, 1998

In March 2002, I had the great pleasure of meeting some cousins from Grandma's side of the family while in Albuquerque for a conference.  Uncle Roman was Grandma's brother.  I had met almost all of the cousins from Gram's side before, but Roman's family had moved away long before I was born, so I hadn't met them yet.  I met Uncle Roman just once, when I was about 10, but we corresponded by letter until the month he passed away in 1998.  I was sad that I never got to spend time with him as an adult before he died, but I thoroughly enjoyed meeting his wife, Betty, and their children, Carle and Tom.  Carle's husband is Bill, and Tom's wife is Peg.  They showed me amazing New Mexico hospitality!  They also laughed at me when I sampled the "mild" chile sauce and started coughing.  I have a severely tender Swedish/Midwestern palate!  It was all in good fun.  What a lovely evening.

I hope I have Betty's energy when I'm approaching 80!

Sadly, Tom passed away unexpectedly in March 2006.  He will be greatly missed by his mother, Betty, and his sister, Carle, and the entire Dietzler family.

Aside from meeting and spending time with my blood relatives during that 2002 visit, by far the greatest outcome is that I now exchange letters with Aunt Betty, just like I did with Uncle Roman for most of my childhood.  I can't tell you how happy this makes me!
